Buying and selling luxury property in Morningside
There are numerous definitions and synonyms for “luxury”, and most of them could be applied to luxury property in the lovely, leafy suburb of Morningside. Some of these synonyms and definitions include a few favourites – “a state of great comfort or elegance, especially when involving great expense” and “something that is indulgent, rather than essential or necessary”.
In the South African property market, Morningside is considered to be an affluent area, mainly residential, although there are some small to medium commercial enterprises in the area, as well as good schools, clinics, shops, hotels, and a world-class, multi-disciplinary specialist private hospital, Mediclinic Morningside.
It follows that properties in Morningside will be luxurious, magnificent, and very comfortable, and certainly grand and intended for our well-heeled residents. This well-to-do area has everything for which discerning residents could wish, in addition to being in close proximity to Sandton, Sandton City, and the host of corporate concerns that are located in the richest square mile in Africa.
By the same token, Fine & Country South Africa is a renowned professional real estate agency that specialises in the luxury property sector in Morningside and other similarly affluent areas throughout this country. The luxury property market is one which requires specific expertise, because it doesn’t represent run-of-the-mill buying, selling, and renting. This sector is highly specialised, as are our independent agents, and their in-depth knowledge of local conditions in Morningside that accompanies them in their property dealings here.

A little about Morningside
There’s very little information available about Morningside’s history, bar the fact that it was established in 1950, after initially being located on an erstwhile farm that went by the name of Zandfontein (a fountain situated in sand or sandy soil). There’s no doubt that whoever Zandfontein’s farming owners once were, they would be positively astounded at the beauty, affluence, comfort, and convenience of living in Morningside today.
More about adjacent Sandton
Like Morningside, the area that was to become Sandton once consisted of farmlands, followed by smallholdings or plots, as South Africans liked to refer to the latter small agricultural holdings. Even during the latter part of the 1960s, the Sandton area had no shopping facilities or much other urban infrastructure of which to speak of. Rosebank was the closest commercial centre to the Sandton area.
Instead, it was favoured by residents who were relatively comfortable financially, preferred to live in the country and commute to work in the city (Johannesburg), and enjoyed a semi-rural lifestyle – typically the so-called “horsey” or “mink and manure” set.
