With only a few days until Christmas Day, many people are preparing for the biggest day of the year, unwrapping presents and enjoying Christmas dinner with family or friends.
If you’re thinking about moving in the New Year, it may be a good time to start searching for your dream home now. Boxing Day is one of the busiest days of the year for online property searches, rightmove.co.uk had more than 25 million views last year. So how should you search for a new home over Christmas?
Here, Simon Bradbury of Fine & Country St. Neots, reveals his top tips to find your dream home.
“Personally, I would continue my search even on Christmas Day. ‘Home in’ on the properties that really interest you – and email the estate agent directly if you want to arrange a viewing. Then, follow up the request with a phone call and leave a message, if necessary. Most estate agents are closed over Christmas, but very often important messages such as requests for viewings are followed up.”
“It’s a great time to view properties as there is normally less competition from other buyers as Christmas is a time for relaxing and spending time with family members, with searching for a new home being put off until the New Year.”
1. Ask the agent to call you directly over the Christmas period should any suitable properties come on the market or if they are likely to be listed soon. Try to get advance notice where possible, too.
2. Set up email alerts on our website here but also on the main property portals, Rightmove and Zoopla. The more email alerts, the merrier.
3. It might sound old-fashioned in this increasingly online world, nonetheless look out for estate agents ‘For Sale’ boards as sometimes, they are put up before the homes are advertised online.”
