The Cambridgeshire village of Sawtry has a population of over 6,000. During the Dark Ages, Sawtry was divided into three parishes - All Saints, St. Andrew and Judith and originally got its name from the fact that it was a trading centre for salt.
Sawtry has good transport links - Huntingdon train station is a 15 minute drive and provides train services to London within 50 minutes by train. Sawtry is situated next to the A14 and close to the A1 major roads. Cambridge is 27 miles away, Peterborough 15 miles and London 75 miles by road.
The town provides easy access to numerous private schools in Peterborough, Oundle and Kimbolton. There's also a wide selection of state schools within the area, including Sawtry Community college which provides education for nearby villages as well as Sawtry itself.
It is a large village with many historic properties. The beautiful church of All Saints was built in 1880.
Sawtry has two pubs and an Indian restaurant, all serving food. There is also a small selection of shops and an annual Carnival in the summer.
There are many communities close to Sawtry including Stilton, Glatton, Hamerton and Holme. Serpentine Green Shopping Centre is a 14 minute drive and provides a large selection of shops.
