The island has a number of areas to choose from, depending on what you are looking for. You will find small picturesque villages, resorts focusing on water sports, places that are more suitable for families - with waterparks nearby, there are areas perfect for hikers, and then there´s the lively resorts with restaurants, clubs, bars etc. open all night.
Nearly half of its 870,000 inhabitants live in the capital Palma, which also has the largest port and is located on the west coast.
In the city centre you will find the old town, historic sights, as well as the cathedral, the Arab baths, great shopping opportunities, markets and of course a very good selection of restaurants, cafés and bars.
You will find some of Mallorca´s beautiful beaches, like Cala Mayor for example, just outside of the city.
