House hunting during COVID-19

House hunting during COVID-19

With the effects of lockdown leaving many feeling dissatisfied with their home, you may be looking to move, either to the beautiful countryside for a tranquil retreat or to a home with a more suitable home office space or a generous garden to spend quality time.

With this in mind, we've prepared a guide for those thinking of moving home during lockdown:

Start your search online

If you're dreaming of your perfect home, the chances are, you have already been browsing beautiful properties online. This is a great place to start to get a better idea of available homes within your budget, in your desired area.

Virtual solutions

Once you've found a property you are interested in, contact the estate agent to organise a virtual viewing. The benefit of viewing a property online is that you will be able to have a guided walkthrough of the property from the comfort of your own home. The tour will be conducted by the agent and might talk you through the key features of the property. Virtual viewings also allow you to attend multiple viewings in one day, without even having to leave your sofa.

Ask questions

Once you have attended a virtual viewing, take this opportunity to ask the agent any questions you would usually ask during a physical viewing. For example, you may want to know what the area is like, accessibility to local schools, or simply if the property has had much interest. If the initial property did not tick all your boxes, why not ask if the agent has any other properties that you could be interested in. They may be able to give you a virtual viewing there and then.

Health & Safety

If you are based in an area where restrictions are beginning to ease, ask the agent to provide you with their COVID-19 Health and Saftey guidelines, to ensure the service you are receiving will not put your safety at risk. If you like the property and wish to have a physical viewing, check what the procedure is for a safe physical viewing. Once you are happy that they will conduct this in line with Government guidance, you can take the process from there.
