Stylish ways to decorate your child’s bedroom

Stylish ways to decorate your child’s bedroom

When it comes to decorating a child’s bedroom, the world really is your oyster. No matter if you have visions of a powdery pastel or a strong hue for your child’s bedroom, there are plenty of ways to decorate a room that a young boy or girl would love. We catch up with Fine & Country Interior Design experts, Wickenden Hutley, Rebecca Hughes Interiors, Base Interior and Burbeck Interiors to find out their expert tips.

Children’s rooms are a great place to get creative and allow you to let your inner-child to come out to play. It is no surprise that children spend a lot of time in their bedroom. They use it for sleeping, playing and working: it follows that their space should reflect their personalities, too. We think a children’s room should be as important as your sitting room: stylish, practical, fun, cosy and comfortable to keep your kids happy from toddler to teen and all ages in-between.

When it comes to children’s decor, you may want to follow more neutral tones. We think they are a great place to start, allowing you to add playful details to give warmth and colour.

This twin bedroom, designed by Wickenden Hutley, is the perfect space for two best friends to hang out after school. With a space for toys at one end of the room and two comfortable twin beds at the other, it’s a lovely light room for both playing and sleeping.

Toys can be a pain to keep tidy, so using traditional toys as room dividers or as a focal point is a great way to add character to a space. We adore this rocking horse used to bring a neutral colour scheme together by Burbeck Interiors.

Having fun with the design of a children’s bedroom is also key. This room designed by Rebecca Hughes Interiors features an accent wall with fun animal print wallpaper offset by a soft neutral paint on the surrounding walls. Creating fun areas for children to play in their rooms is paramount to ensuring your children love their space.

In designing a home away from home for one of their clients, Base Interior created this plush children’s bedroom with bespoke designed bunk beds and padded velvet-lined walls to create the perfect safe cosy corner for young children. It’s both tasteful and luxurious and suitable for visiting children of all ages.

Keeping a room calm for children is very important, too. The key is to find a balance, and you can do this by adding more soft tones and textures such as wooden accents, a fun wallpaper or contrasting prints. Not only does it make the space more interesting, but it doesn’t restrict you to one overly coordinated look.

The most important aspect is to have fun with styling and sourcing your key pieces when renovating your child’s room. It’s this playful element which will ultimately shine through in your finished design and will be the envy of all your children’s friends.
