We have scoured the UK to find the best places to celebrate the New Year. Some are in the capital. Others in major cities and towns across the UK, but all of them are memorable night to remember and the perfect place to live. 

1. London

When you talk about New Year’s Eve in Britain, you can’t help but mention the famous capital. New Year’s Eve is widely celebrated throughout London with spectacular firework shows and some of the biggest parties in Europe. 

Thousands of people will be lining the banks of the River Thames to take in the breath-taking firework show from the London Eye. If fireworks are not your thing, there are plenty of parties where you can enjoy yourself. If you want to pull out all the stops, join the Carnivale at Battersea Evolution ( for a colourful New Year's Eve party or enjoy one last jive with Dippy at the Natural History Museum's New Year’s Eve Ball.

2. Edinburgh

The city is crammed full of activities, from live gigs to the ‘Night Afore’ and ‘Hogmanay Street Party’ in Princes Street Gardens, there’s no shortage of fun this NYE. 

Scotland’s capital is unfazed by the brisk northern temperatures with thousands of people joining the Hogmanay street party in Prince Street Gardens. It is an event not to be missed with a spectacular firework display, a variety of arts events and entertainment for all the family. (

3. Cardiff

The welsh city of Cardiff is full of unusual things to do this New Year’s Eve. Why not join the party people at the Tramshed and Jacobs celebrating 100 years of music and culture.

Celebrate in Newquay as the brand-new year draws in. It is a tradition for individuals to don fancy dress for the festivities in the town, which include a beautiful display of fireworks at Newquay Harbour.

Thousands of spectators will be near Central Square around midnight, singing Auld Lang Syne.

5. Manchester

Manchester is a city full of wonder and places to explore. It’s a perfect place for family and friends. The city hosts its second fireworks extravaganza by the big wheel in Piccadilly Gardens. The celebrations start at 11pm so make sure you get a good spot early!

6. Northumberland

The town of Allendale brings in the New Year in an unusual way with local townsmen, or ‘’guisers’’ who carry whiskey barrels filled with burning tar towards a ceremonial bonfire. The Allendale Tar Bar'l Ceremony is an incredible sight and a fantastic night for everybody.

7. Bristol

On December 31, Bristol lets loose and celebrates the New Year in style. The city is full of people, wanting to enjoy delicious food at the many restaurants located in Bristol city centre. The Square is hosting a night at the circus with live entertainment and a buffet for all!

8. Lake District

Are you wanting a quiet New Year’s Eve? The Lake District offers tranquillity and beautiful views of the British countryside, different from the city scenes. 9. St. Ives

Head to Cornwall to the biggest fancy dress party, where hundreds of people head into the town centre to celebrate New Year’s Eve.  

Centred around the harbour front, the celebrations will include live bands and food stalls. Many of the bars and restaurants will be throwing their own parties so if you’re thinking about eating out, make sure you book in advance.

10. Your own home

If crowds and parties are not your scene, why not spend New Year’s Eve at home with your loved ones.
