Homes to Love this Valentine’s Day

With Valentine’s Day fast-approaching, love is in the air. In celebration of the romantic season, we reveal some of the prettiest homes you can’t help but fall in love with.

1. Narbeth, Pembrokeshire, 4 bedrooms

charming stone country cottage

Dating back to the early 19th century, this beautiful four-bedroom barn conversion enjoys a glorious countryside location on the rural fringes of the pretty Pembrokeshire town of Narberth. The property features many character features throughout including exposed stone walls, a slate floor, exposed beams and log burners.

There are two living rooms, one with a sunken floor, and a dining room which serves as a perfect entertaining space. The country-style kitchen offers built-in appliances whilst the conservatory boasts the best of the views. There are four bedrooms in total, with the primary bedroom offering an en-suite and dressing area.

Outside you will find large, private grounds that wrap around the property and two outbuildings, all are fully enclosed by fencing, stone walling and natural hedge boundaries. The home is very private with no close neighbours nearby and offers ample off-road parking. What’s not to love?

2. Blandford Forum, Dorset, 4 bedrooms

beautiful english thatched cottage

Sitting in the popular Tarrant Valley, this detached cobb cottage benefits from characterful features and a sunny garden, all the while enjoying peaceful and quiet surroundings.

Currently Grade II Listed, this 'chocolate box' thatched cottage is situated within the grounds of Orchard Cottage and has an array of character features. From the Inglenook fireplace to the cobb walls and timber beams, this home has not lost its rural roots.

An attractive entrance leads through to a good-sized kitchen that has both been maintained and renovated to ensure that it is of the highest standard. Continuing on the ground floor is a spacious, yet cosy, living room housing the aforementioned Inglenook fireplace. Climbing a short stack of steps before reaching the second floor, you will find a flexible space that can suitably become a private office.

The surroundings of the properties are a true reflection of the Dorset countryside; quiet, tranquil and secluded.

3. Chepstow, Gloucestershire, 6 bedrooms

Palladian style modern Manor House

This outstanding Palladian style modern manor house was completed to the most exacting specification in 2005. It is beautifully situated in the far south west corner of Gloucestershire, just outside the historic border town of Chepstow, and about five miles from the Severn Bridge.

Tidenham Manor stands within 7.4 acres of superb, landscaped parkland and manicured gardens in a commanding, elevated setting, with panoramic views over a long stretch of the nearby Severn Estuary to the southern Cotswolds.

The main house offers classic high ceilings, inlaid marble in the reception hall, carved ceiling covings and a handcrafted kitchen. The approach is through electrically operated security gates onto a long drive through lovely gardens to a huge parking area and the three-car garage.

The gardens are totally enclosed and include a large walled garden with large parterre, a detached three-bedroom stone cottage, useful outbuildings and a derelict stone cottage.

4. Abingdon, Oxfordshire, 5 bedrooms

stone cottage in countryside

Tubney Manor is a delightful Grade II Listed property sitting within 1.25 acres of grounds. The home is perfectly positioned on the edge of the sought-after village of Appleton.

This incredible property is approached by a sweeping gravel driveway and is surrounded by glorious Oxfordshire countryside, yet is still benefits from the convenience of the village and its amenities just moments away, and Oxford City Centre within eight miles.

The farmhouse has been sensitively restored throughout to present five comfortable bedrooms, four reception rooms filled with character and three bath/shower rooms. Character features, such as exposed wooden beams are on full view throughout the home.

5. Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire, 4 bedrooms

pretty stone equestrian country cottage

Settled at the end of a quiet country road near Whaley Bridge, steeped in history and with spectacular views in every direction, you will find the hidden gem that is Peathills Farm. This immaculate barn conversion boasts over 13 acres of land, established equestrian facilities and a modern family home.

In 2012, the current owners took possession of a derelict barn with huge potential and they set about building their dream home as well as a successful business on the property. The Grade II listing of the property provided challenges, but the creative couple were able to meet the restrictions at the same time as sympathetically modernising the building. They added a glazed walkway that floods the home in light and offers a stylish, contemporary feel.

The fabulously modern German-built kitchen features integrated appliances and a central island leads to a very spacious dining room. Flagstone flooring, an impressive oak staircase and mullion windows provide a reflection of the old but have been tastefully converted into practical living spaces. A large sitting room featuring a stone-clad, woodburning fireplace and stunning exposed beams is the heart of the home.

6. Farndon, Nottinghamshire, 6 bedrooms

Grade II listed country home in Nottinghamshire

This beautiful Grade II Listed country home enjoys a mature and private setting in the heart of a highly sought-after village. It is mentioned within Nikolaus Pevsner’s ‘The Buildings of England’ as a property of historical importance. There is no doubt that this property is one of the finest architectural examples of its style within the county, and houses of this calibre and finish are rarely offered to the open market.

Arranged over three levels, the property offers a wealth of carefully preserved features which echo the elegance and grace from the era of construction. There is a wealth of original features including flagstone floors, sash windows, original shutters, feature fireplaces and a beautiful original staircase and joinery, which all in all create a very special period home.

The property enjoys a traditional and original frontage with a remote-controlled gated entrance and pedestrian access. The main formal gardens wrap around the property with large, level lawns, heavily stocked borders, a patio and terrace area and a superb outdoor heated swimming pool with an adjacent decked area. The gardens provide a high degree of privacy and are extremely attractive providing seasonal colours throughout the year. There are various terraces and seating areas which benefit from sunlight at different times throughout the day, too.

In the west wing, the downstairs features a spacious family room whilst a secondary staircase leads up to another four double bedrooms and two bathrooms. Connecting the two wings downstairs is the bright farmhouse kitchen and breakfast room, which opens out onto the spacious patio.

Outside you will find equestrian facilities, a tennis court and delightful gardens.

9. St Neots, Cambridgeshire, 4 bedrooms

beautiful english country thatched cottage

This Grade II Listed thatched cottage is quintessentially British and offers an abundance of character and charm. Unlike many cottages of its kind, whose rooms are small and low ceilinged, this picture-perfect property has good proportions, plenty of overhead height and feels surprisingly spacious.

Outside, the property has a mature cottage garden and a gated drive offering off-street parking and a car port. The south-facing garden is enclosed by picket fencing and is mainly laid to lawn with mature trees, shrubs and borders, and a brick pathway to the front door. The garden blooms from spring through to summer with pretty flowers.

10. Ramsgate, Kent, 5 bedrooms

Grade II listed classical Georgian property

The first thing you notice as you approach this stunning Grade II Listed period residence is the high wall that surrounds the grounds from the road. This perimeter wall provides complete privacy and security that is further enhanced as you drive through the gates to find you are enveloped in over three acres of delightful grounds including woodland, lawns and seating areas.

The gravel drive curves round to the front of the house, which is everything you imagine a classical Georgian property to be with its central front door, tall chimney stacks, a myriad of multi-paned sash windows and wall covered in Virginia creeper.

Built in 1885, the home’s key features include impressive fireplaces, a wonderful sitting room converted from the original barn, a charming country-style kitchen-diner with its original flint wall, four-oven gas Aga, and a French-style courtyard with an all-weather entertainment area, hot tub and sauna.

Beyond the covered entertainment area is a very large workshop and Wisteria-covered tandem garage as well as a stunning vaulted and beamed barn.
