Foodie Britain: live near the best restaurants, bakeries and delis

An award-winning restaurant, cosy pub or highly-regarded bakery can make a home even more appealing. Walking across the fields to buy delicious fresh croissants at the weekend or strolling home from the village pub is a dream for many of us. We discover the top 10 homes near the best new eateries.

1. Brighton: 64 degrees and Brunswick Terrace 

This Brighton flat combines the glamour of living on the seafront with the convenience of an incredible restaurant within walking distance. 

64 degrees is a dining experience commended at the most recent National Dining Awards. Known for its industrial look, this small restaurant packs plenty of flavour into its small plates. Each meal is prepared by chefs in an open kitchen, who create an evolving menu of tasty meals using fresh, local produce.

2. Cambridge: Midsummer House and Roebuck House 

Roebuck House is a unique find. It has the look, feel and land of a country home with eight bedrooms, but has a great position in Cambridge. It has its own river frontage and mooring and is within easy reach of the historic Cambridge city centre with all its amenities, attractions and mainline railway station.

A short stroll down the River Cam is one of the best fine dining restaurants in Cambridge. 2018 marks the 20th anniversary of this eatery with views of the river and Midsummer Common. In their refined main dining room, they serve set menus of five courses at lunchtime and eight courses in the evening. It has received many accolades, with a Michelin star awarded in 2002, followed by a second in 2005. 

3. Abergavenny: The Walnut Tree and Cross Ash 

This pretty Welsh cottage is a fantastic countryside retreat, situated on the outskirts of the popular village of Cross Ash, eight miles from the market town of Abergavenny and nine miles from Monmouth. It has grounds of just under an acre of well-maintained gardens

Less than a mile away, down the twisting Old Ross Road, is The Walnut Tree. It is the perfect pub to escape to at the weekend, though it is no ordinary purveyor of a weekend roast dinner. The Telegraph described it as “a legend among British restaurants” and acclaimed its ability to offer food of an incredible quality in an informal setting. 

4. Birmingham: Edgbaston and Loaf 

Set in an exclusive road in the affluent and upmarket area of Edgbaston and close Birmingham City Centre is this unique six-bedroom detached family home with plans drawn up for a significant leisure suite to the rear of the property.
