Ashbourne is a fantastic market town and extremely popular with buyers looking for a rural situation combined with many amenities and has a vibrant community feel.
Shopping is pure pleasure thanks to its plethora of small, family-run businesses and its weekly open-air market. You can browse for fine antiques, find quality food and drink in the many public houses and restaurants, there are boutique designer fashion shops and much more. It’s easy to find somewhere to relax over morning coffee, lunch or afternoon tea in a selection of cafés, inns and tea rooms.
Ashbourne is also famous for its ancient tradition of Royal Shrovetide Football - 'turned up', or started, by such famous figures as Prince Charles, Sir Stanley Matthews and The Duke of Devonshire. Played each Shrovetide Tuesday and Ash Wednesday, it's a unique and unruly event that bears little resemblance to the modern game.
The housing market within Ashbourne and its surrounding villages has been excellent over recent years. Ashbourne, with an overall average price of £272,773, was similar in terms of sold prices to nearby Doveridge (£281,526), but was more expensive than Wirksworth (£213,005) and cheaper than Brailsford (£302,286). In the past year house prices in Ashbourne were 11% up on the year before and 4% up on 2016 when they averaged at £261,161. The location is a gateway into the Peak District and has the Tissington Trail, Carsington Water and many other leisure pursuits all within easy reach.
