Derwent Bridge House is a magnificent Grade II listed three storey Georgian townhouse set in approximately one acre of idyllic riverside grounds. The remarkable Georgian and Regency era interiors have been professionally restored and renovated, with stunning period features throughout. The accommodation includes three impressive reception rooms, three double bedrooms, two bathrooms plus additional loft rooms with conversion approval. The property is well located close to Cockermouth town centre amenities and is within easy reach of major transport links and the Lake District National Park.
A comprehensive scheme of river defences were installed at the property during major upgrading works which took place in 2016/17.
The residence was built in around 1765, with the interior upgraded in the Regency style by the Senhouse family in the 1820s. Superb period features remain throughout, including fine Georgian sash windows with shutters, lime plaster and panelled walls and antique cast iron radiators. In recent years the property has been professionally modernised and sympathetically restored, including re-roofing, improved insulation and high specification river defences.
The handsome front entrance leads into the entrance hall with Cumbrian oak flooring and archway leading to the original staircase with oak balustrade. Off the hallway are three opulent reception rooms, presently serving as a drawing room, formal dining room and a study. The beautifully restored drawing room and study both have real gold leaf plasterwork niches and Georgian period Carron cast iron fireplaces, with an antique Italian marble fireplace in the dining room.
To the rear of the ground floor is a spacious dining kitchen with original limestone flags and a mix of freestanding and fitted solid wood painted cabinetry. The kitchen has a spacious informal dining area, an adjoining larder and a door out to the garden. The ground floor is completed by a unique lavatory, themed in a Regency period Egyptian revival style with marble flooring and walls and golf leaf covered ceiling.
The first floor bedrooms have been themed to reflect an eclectic mix of Regency period styles, to include Italian, Chinoiserie and French with stretched fabric and gilt-wood covered walls. The spacious master bedroom has a dressing room and ensuite bathroom and the house bathroom has a luxurious freestanding slipper bathtub and large built in cabinets with a remarkable Greek Allegorical themed mural. To the second floor is an additional suite of attic/store rooms with planning approval to convert the rooms into additional habitable space, to include a large music room/cinema, an office/ bedroom, a kitchenette and a bathroom.
High double gates open into a large gravel parking area with an impressive Georgian coach house design garage with workshop above, built in 2013. The rear grounds are split into a formal lawn garden with a 72ft specimen cypress tree and an extensive woodland garden with around 100 metres of idyllic riverbank overlooking the River Derwent and Derwent bridge. Off the back of the residence is a west facing Mediterranean feel patio garden for alfresco dining and entertaining, with surrounding walls providing shelter and privacy. The grounds have CCTV coverage and the property has a monitored burglar alarm system.
