West Street Farmhouse is a stunning 18th century Kentish country house, built on a hillside and surrounded by 0.765 acres of grounds in the midst of the rolling Kent countryside. In recent times, it has been extended to provide spacious and versatile accommodation, creating a wonderful family home. Upon approach, you are greeted by a pair of automatic wooden gates that lead to the double carport, outhouse and log store, and a driveway that is flanked by well-maintained lawns, beautiful specimen trees and shrub borders. The Drive sweeps up towards the house and the moment you get out of your car and see the high chimney stacks, the fascinating frontage incorporating flint inserts and brick arches above the windows, and the impressive original front door, you will want to see what is inside. On each side of the attractive entrance hall are two charming reception rooms. One is currently used as a music room, the other as a relaxing sitting room. Both have attractive fireplaces and elegant curtains as well as lovely views across the garden. Down the corridor, a door leads to a secondary hallway. Off to the left is a downstairs toilet and double shower room with rain shower and ahead are double doors that open onto a magnificent L-shaped lounge. This really is the heart of the house, featuring a beautiful fireplace, luxury curtains and carpeting, plenty of windows and natural light and french doors which open onto a courtyard that has steps up to the gardens. Beyond the lounge is a good-sized office under a vaulted ceiling. If required, this whole area could be a luxurious annex for an elderly family member, or provide office facilities for anyone working from home, as well as being a wonderful entertainment space for parties and dinners. The delightful country style kitchen/breakfast area & adjoining dining area also has access to the courtyard. It is full of character and charm with its traditional terracotta floor tiling, under-floor heating, exposed beams, an old inset range cooker, a lovely Welsh dresser and pine units, as well as a door to the cellar that is being used as a utility room and for additional storage. To provide for modern day living, there are also two very contemporary built in ovens, a ceramic hob, dishwasher two integrated fridges and separate integrated freezer in the kitchen. There is also a lobby and cloakroom on the ground floor. If you go up the period staircase to the galleried landing, you will find a family bathroom with a claw foot bath and separate shower, together with three large double bedrooms with dado rails and lovely views across the gardens and farmland. There is also a separate door and corridor to the master suite with its fitted wardrobes and en-suite double shower under a vaulted ceiling. The rear gardens are a sheer delight. Divided up into various areas, you can enjoy privacy or activity depending on your interest. The inner garden beyond the courtyard includes a lawn, shrub borders and high hedging. It leads to a pergola and stepped pathway flanked by amazing mature shrubs and borders, and interspersed by secluded lawn areas surrounded by beautifully maintained hedges. There is a small orchard and steps up to a water garden with a circular pond, fountain and water lilies. Hidden at the bottom of the garden is vegetable patch with raised beds, a greenhouse and a storage shed.
"We moved here in 2004 and immediately fell in love. The stunning gardens are a sanctuary for peace and quiet. We have spent many therapeutic days gardening, reading a book in the sun or drinking a glass of wine on the patio. The wildlife and flowers throughout the seasons never fail to lift our spirits. We've had some great garden parties too, which the space lends itself to perfectly, and equally, enjoyed many a day socialising around the dinner table with friends or just spending family time with our feet up on the couch around the fire. West Street Farmhouse has been a very special home for our family these past 14 years and has given us many treasured memories. We will be sad to say goodbye to this wonderful place. The village of Finglesham is a friendly neighbourhood and very much a community. Horse riders from the stables at the end of the road and dog walkers wonder the lanes at the weekends and the village has a delightful pub/restaurant just a short walk down the road. Nearby Northbourne also has an excellent pub, as well as a village hall with a wide variety of activities and the renowned Northbourne Park prep school. A few years ago the area received fibre broadband, which has made a huge difference and is ideal for those who may need to work from home. The medieval town of Sandwich is nearby, with its historic buildings, pubs, restaurants and riverside cafes. Equally, Deal is just a short drive with excellent shops, independent restaurants, the seafront, and Tides swimming pool complex. Sandwich station is only nine minutes by car and Deal station an 11 minutes, offering direct trains to London, which are high speed from Ashford. Easy access via the A256 provides quick Links to the rest of Kent and beyond. There is Kingsdown and Walmer and the Royal Cinque Ports golf clubs for golfing enthusiasts as well as the championship courses at Royal St George's and Princes. If sailing is your interest, there is The Downs Sailing Club with its clubhouse along The Strand. There are a number of good primary schools in the area and both Dover and Sandwich offer excellent grammar school facilities."
