Vendor Interview - This magnificent family home, which has been beautifully designed by the current owners, enjoys a superb location close to the city centre of Derby. We moved here in the early 1990s, says the owner, but after seven years of enjoying our home my husband and I decided we would like a change and so we were considering a move, but our two sons were not so keen. They liked their school and had so many friends in the local area that they persuaded us to stay and instead consider renovating the house. However, what started out as plans to extend the existing property ended up with the construction a brand new home.
We wanted this to be our dream home, so we drafted in the help of a respected architect and an interior designer to realise our vision, and the result is just beautiful. We wanted space to entertain for the housewarming we had over 200 people, most of whom were mingling in the vast reception hall but we
also wanted it to have the feel of a comfortable family home. No expense has been spared and the attention to detail has been minute, even down to the bespoke carpets, the design of which mirrors that of the ceilings.
We really do have everything we could have wished for in this house, including a fabulous indoor pool complex which is a feature of the property we have all thoroughly enjoyed. We wanted the gardens to be as elegant as the house itself, so to the front we have a sweeping driveway and an area of lawn that features a pond and a fountain, continues the owner. To the back we have a stone patio and a BBQ area, and then the rest is laid to lawn and edged with mature trees. Theres a good degree of privacy and its a south-facing garden, so during the summer months the whole space is absolutely bathed in sunshine.
My favourite room is the very elegant main sitting room, says the owner. Its wonderfully light and bright and has a very relaxing atmosphere, and it also takes in a beautiful view of the garden. This is one of the nicest roads in the area and its lined with some beautiful homes, so it has an exclusive feel, says the owner. And despite being so close to the city centre, here you feel you have space to breathe; its far removed from the hustle and bustle.
Just off the entrance hall we have two rooms that we had intended to use as a very large home gym, but which weve instead used for our many parties, says the owner. They are connected by bi-fold doors, so its possible to create one vast space, and in my opinion they could be used as anything from a home office to a huge games room. It would also be entirely possible to convert them into a self- contained annexe space. What will I miss about this house? Everything, says the owner. Its a uniquely beautiful and extremely elegant family home.
