“We moved here about three years ago as we fell in love with the position. The views are stunning and we are near the centre of the village but despite being adjacent to the road, which is ideal for access to Dover and Folkestone, it is very quiet. What we originally bought was actually a small bungalow which, apart from a couple of walls, has now been totally replaced by the lovely house we spent so much time and effort developing. However, we are about to start a new chapter in our lives so we hope that another family will be able to get great pleasure from everything we have done to create this unique home.
Alkham is a friendly village community with a cricket club and a village hall where there are regular film shows and other activities. It is a wonderful spot if you enjoy walking and cycling and there are bridle paths for riding as well as an equestrian centre. You can play golf at nearby courses whether it is Etchinghill Golf Club or the Walmer and Kingdown Club near Deal and for water sports and sailing there is the Royal Cinque Ports Yacht Club in Dover. If you want a pleasant meal without having to take the car out there is the renowned Marquis hotel and restaurant within walking distance.
The location is extremely convenient because if you need to commute to London you can be at Folkestone West station in five or six minutes for the high speed train to St Pancras, while it is simple to get to the Eurotunnel for a day trip to France. There are excellent private and grammar schools in Folkestone, Dover and Canterbury while the primary school in River has been rated as Outstanding by Ofsted. Shopping facilities are easily accessible in Whitfield as well as Folkestone and nearby River can cater for any immediate needs".
