Having researched a potential relocation from the south east of England to Lincolnshire, the current owners were soon convinced of the benefits. "We realised we could attain a significantly larger property in a more tranquil rural location and still commute into London easily. Harlaxton was recommended as a sought-after conservation village within easy reach of high-speed train services from Grantham to London Kings Cross, and it has proved to be an ideal choice. The village is a thriving, friendly community and the surrounding countryside is the tranquil rural haven we craved."
"The house is ideally placed in the heart of the village yet it's totally secluded as it sits back from the main thoroughfare, and it's such a splendid period home which exudes character such as pargetting to some walls, an external covered balcony, an eclectic mix of chimneys, and a bell tower. When we first stepped inside, we were immediately struck by its sense of space and light and its mix of original Georgian and Victorian features. For instance, there are examples of original floorboards, stone walls, cast iron and mullioned windows, as well as a wealth of beams throughout."
"We've lived here for 33 years now and during that time the house has proved to be a really superb family home which has adapted to suit our needs as the children have grown up and left home. Of course, over the years we've continuously maintained and updated the house, but our most recent addition is a large decked area at the bottom of the garden which is now a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the garden and views of the village church, or to dine al fresco. Indeed, the garden has been a labour of love over the years as it has evolved into the mature country garden we so enjoy today."
"It would be difficult to choose a favourite room or feature of the house, but we particularly love spending time in the lounge. Its stunning double-height vaulted ceiling and galleried landing made a huge impact on us when we first saw it and still inspires us to this day."
"We feel very lucky to have lived in such a beautiful historic home where we've made so many happy memories, particularly at Christmas when we're usually joined by the extended family. We especially look forward to decorating the tree each year, which takes some time as it's usually around 14 feet high!"
