ACTON Acton lies about half a mile North West on the outskirts of the historic market town of Nantwich. It is a small village mentioned in the Doomsday Book and scene of a battle (1643) in the English Civil War. The site is close to The Star Inn, St Marys Church and Acton Church of England Primary School (about 1/4 mile distant). Acton is known for Dorfold Hall, a magnificent Jacobean Mansion, believed to have been built on the site of the Manor of Edwin, the last Saxon Earl of Chester, who was a grandson of Lady Godiva. The area is agricultural, with dairy farming the main industry. Around a third of the area falls within the Dorfold Estate. Historically, agriculture was the major employer, but it has now been overtaken by the service industries, with many residents commuting significant distances outside the parish to work.
NANTWICH Nantwich is a charming market town set beside the River Weaver with a rich history, a wide range of speciality shops & 4 supermarkets. Nantwich in Bloom in November 2015 was delighted to have once again scooped the prestigious Gold award from the Britain in Bloom competition. In Cheshire, Nantwich is second only to Chester in its wealth of historic buildings. The High Street has many of the town's finest buildings, including the Queen's Aid House and The Crown Hotel built in 1585. Four major motorways which cross Cheshire ensure fast access to the key commercial centres of Britain and are linked to Nantwich by the A500 Link Road. Manchester Airport, one of Europe's busiest and fastest developing, is within a 45 minute drive of Nantwich. Frequent trains from Crewe railway station link Cheshire to London-Euston in only 1hr 30mins. Manchester and Liverpool offer alternative big city entertainment. Internationally famous football teams, theatres and concert halls are just some of the many attractions.
AGENTS NOTE Drake House was sold out of the Dorfold Estate in the 1950's. It bears a date stone marked 1813. The construction is of brick under a slate and tiled roof. Previous owners have carried out sympathetic programmes of restoration and enlargement, retaining beamed ceilings and fireplaces and have incorporated mahogany window frames and internal joinery. A superb Johnson & Johnson oak kitchen and utility room, all to an exacting specification and with high quality materials and workmanship throughout.
Drake House is one of only a small number of properties along a no through country lane which is surrounded by the Dorfold Estate farmland. This conveniently situated property enjoys outstanding views, only a short distance from Acton village & nearby Nantwich town. The views of Peckforton and Bickerton Hills can be observed in the distance and form part of the stunning evening sunsets.
LOCATION & AMENITIES The property enjoys an unrivalled situation in the hamlet of Acton, on the edge of Nantwich (2.5 miles), where there are excellent schooling and shopping facilities. Crewe (intercity railway network - London Euston 1.5 hours, Manchester 40 mins (is 7 miles, the city of Chester id 20 miles and the property is within daily reach of Liverpool and Manchester 40 miles. Manchester International Airport is about a 45 minute drive. The M6 motorway (Junction 16) is 12 miles.
