SELLER COMMENT "We found Bushel quite by chance, we had viewed another house in the village and as we were leaving we noticed a For Sale board which was almost obscured by the large hedge. Out of pure curiosity we went to the selling agent for the details and arranged a viewing.
As we came down the drive to the top of the steps we both experienced that WOW moment that we had be searching for. We were both stunned by the house and the potential it had. The garden needed attention but the potential was great!
The house had a lovely feel and we really loved the features related to the period of the house and although we knew we would have to spend a lot on getting the house as we wanted, we knew it would be perfect. We have been here almost eleven years now, but feel it is time for us to downsize. It will be terribly difficult to go as we love it so dearly. We won't be looking to move too far away as Highweek is a friendly village and community which has a Church, Pub and many community groups. The bus route into Newton Abbot town is frequent, but it is also an easy distance to walk on a nice day.
The location works very well for us, with easy access to the mainline railway station at Newton Abbot as well as being accessible to the motorway network. We also love the fact we can be on Dartmoor in around 15 minutes drive or on the beach at Teignmouth in 20. It really is a central location but with a village feel. We really hope the new owners will love the house as much as we have done and will enjoy exploring all that the area has to offer."
STEP INSIDE The entrance to this property is a beautiful start to the home. When standing in the hall you would be forgiven for thinking that this was a grand Victorian villa. It really gives a feeling of grandeur with its tall decorative window and lovely staircase. There is a door in the hall which gives access to the cellar area, tanked by the owners to give a dry space ideal for storage. As you walk through the hallway, you'll find a recently installed cloakroom with WC and wash hand basin and then the next room is the dining room. You'll be impressed by the floor to ceiling bay sash windows with working shutters, and the general feeling of space with nice high ceiling and plenty of light. There is a fireplace and plenty of space for generous dining furniture. An arch opens through into the living room where there is a matching bay and of course pretty views over the lawn and gardens, there is also a fireplace, complete with wood burner. The kitchen is at the end of the hall and has been fitted with a kitchen in keeping with the feel of the house, lovely cabinets and a gorgeous marble worktops. There is also an AGA and large island with matching units and top, giving lots of work space. The old cold room remains and gives the kitchen a handy larder cupboard and boiler room. From the kitchen you then go through into another living space. This great additional space has it's own wood burner and door out onto the garden. A lovely spot to enjoy a coffee and read of the paper. Upstairs there is a handy shower room off the half landing – every bit of space in this house has been utilised well! Off the main landing there are three generous bedrooms all looking out over the gardens, there is, of course, a main bathroom here too with bath and shower over.
STEP OUTSIDE The gardens are a real credit to the owners, there has been a lot of time and investment that has gone into creating something really rather special. As you step off the driveway you start to really appreciate it. An immaculate curved lawn to the left with well stocked and well kept beds and the pathway to the front door. The Wisteria that runs along the front of the house, really deserves to be seen in full flower – it's beautiful and very impressive. The garden has been designed to give different areas, there is a separate paved area with pond, and plenty of spaces to sit and enjoy. There is also a vegetable garden with greenhouse and small potting shed, there's even an outside Belfast sink.
