SELLER INSIGHT "This large and beautifully presented family home occupies a highly desirable location just a stone's throw from Newton Abbot town centre. The house is fabulous, but it was location that really sold the property to us. We wanted to be close to the town both for the sake of convenience and so that our children could enjoy a degree of freedom – and I wouldn't have to be constantly ferrying them here and there – but at the same time we didn't want to feel as if we were right in the thick of things. This property sits in really lovely elevated position, just a short walk from all the shops and amenities, but it's very quiet here, we enjoy a good degree of privacy and the views are absolutely gorgeous. It's one of those places that I would say offers the best of both worlds.

The previous owners had done quite a lot of work to the house so when we came here it was all really top notch. However, over time we too have made some changes just to enhance it even further. We had the lovely old floorboards stripped, we put in a gorgeous new kitchen and we also had the boiler upgraded to make the house much more energy efficient. The rooms are all really well proportioned and there are lots of very attractive original features that give the house an enormous amount of character. For us it's been a wonderful home, a true family home.

It's so peaceful up here that you really do feel very detached from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. And one of the standout features of the property has to be the views, which are quite magnificent. From the bed we can watch the clouds roll in over Dartmoor and in the evening we can see the lights of Shaldon Bridge reflected in the water… The surroundings are so lovely that it's often hard to believe we're just minutes from a bustling town centre.

I'd probably say that the main living room is my favourite part of the house. It retains lovely original features, including a very ornate moulded coving and a stunning marble fireplace, it also has huge windows, so not only is it incredibly light and bright but you also get the most wonderful vista right the way down the estuary all the way to Shaldon Bridge.

I think what makes the location so fantastic is the fact that within the house and garden we can enjoy utter peace and privacy and yet just a short walk away we have shops, restaurants, a cinema… everything you might want or need. We can also hop in the car or jump on a train and get just about anywhere else with ease.

The kitchen is the real hub of our home and one of the features that I particularly love is the walk in larder. Houses don't tend to have them anymore, and it's something that I'm really going to miss.

The house has a real warmth to it and it's a place that really comes alive when it's full of family and friends. We love the location, so we're not moving far, but we'll miss the feeling of utter peace and privacy that the property as a whole has afforded us. It's a real gem of a place and we've no doubt that its new owners will absolutely love living here."
 

LOCATION Seymour Road is highly regarded in the area and has a number of Victorian homes as well as more modern builds. This particular property is on the highest point, which gives some lovely views.

The location is great for a family as it is easy to walk down into the town or to the Train Station. Access on to the A380 for Torbay/Exeter and the A38 for Plymouth/ Exeter is just a few minutes' drive away too.
