Owners Lifestyle Interview - "Our home is at 'Bronwydd', Pontypridd, where we have lived for forty-three years; We have brought up two children and comfortably housed their live-in nannies; practised and rehearsed as professional classical musicians without ever disturbing the neighbours; held parties and, above all, enjoyed the peaceful elegance of this High Victorian masterpiece of a house and home. We have preserved all the important features: the extensive cornicing, elegant and beautiful staircase and banister, marble and carved fireplaces, the fine internal doors, a large Victorian bath and a grand inbuilt dresser in the kitchen. In 1880 the main entrance hall was floored using tiles from a company from Devon which still operates today - we even bought appropriate tiles from them for our renovation of the kitchen.

We are only the fourth family to own Bronwydd, choosing it because of its accommodation, convenience and quiet, calming atmosphere, even though we benefit from railways, buses and major roads all nearby: the M4 is ten minutes away; Cardiff less than half an hour; the Vale of Glamorgan just over thirty minutes; Merthyr Tydfil twenty minutes; the Brecon Beacons thirty and Porthcawl forty minutes or so. Our six bedrooms, each with its own character, are large but not cavernous and one is able to disappear for essential solitude or be as gregarious as one wishes; the manageable main cellar has been a useful area as a workshop and for storage.

Our mature gardens have been lovingly maintained and all areas are well stocked with bushes and perennials, while the vegetable garden has been very productive over the years.

Part of our home includes a cosy, easily-maintained detached cottage. We have rented it to tenants almost uninterruptedly for the whole time we have lived here, one lady staying for over twenty years! We are pleased to say that income from the cottage has always covered the running costs of the main house."
