5 Bedroom Terraced House For Sale in Northampton Street, Bath, Somerset, BA1

3 5 2
Stunning five bedroom, three reception room, Grade II listed Georgian townhouse with lovely gardens ideally located under 0.5 mile from the heart of Georgian Bath. There is a separate apartment offering a bedroom, kitchen and shower room, courtyard garden and its own access. The house was built in 1796 according to the designs of the renowned John Pinch the elder. Northampton Street was built on the pleasure grounds of No 14, Royal Crescent and was John Pinch the elder's first major work.

The vendor says: "This is a lovely family home with lots of room and ideal for relatives, kids, dogs, friends and parties. It is very versatile in the way it can be used. On the top floor there are three bedrooms. The smallest one has a French double bed and views towards St James's Square. My son's bedroom is a large double room with built in cupboard and original stone fireplace. The third bedroom, also a double, looks out over the garden and has views over Bath towards Prior Park. The master bedroom on the floor below, is a lovely light room with three large Georgian sash windows with open aspect, two original built in wardrobes, fireplace and original wooden floorboards. The bathroom next door is huge and fitted with Philippe Starck units. It is a beautiful calm, sunny space to relax in. There is plenty of room for the walk in shower and free standing claw-foot bath."

"The floor below, which is the first floor, has a stunning drawing room with high ceilings, decorative original cornicing, three windows with original shutters and a large Carrara marble fireplace with iron inset. This light and airy room opens out onto the withdrawing room, currently used as an office, which has an original fireplace surrounded by Georgian alcoves. On the ground floor the wide hall has original flagstones, which are very practical for kids, bikes, surf-boards and muddy boots. There is a beautiful decorative arch with ornate plasterwork. The hall opens into the sitting room, a gorgeous room painted in chartreuse with dado rail in brassica and an original Sienna Marble fireplace, the best working fireplace in the house, and two Georgian windows with original shutters. We use this room as a family/snug room now but have used it as the dining room in the past, so it is a versatile space. The adjoining kitchen has a rangemaster, granite and wood tops, lots of cupboards, room for a huge table, open aspect onto the garden and porcelain tiles on the floor with underfloor heating. It is a very sociable room, and a very practical one. There is a utility and WC also on this floor."

"The lower ground floor has its own entrance from the street and is also accessible from the house, so it could be incorporated back into the house or used as a separate self-contained home/work space. There is a kitchen with views of the private courtyard garden and a large light bedroom and shower room."

"We are very lucky to have such a decent-sized garden in the middle of town. It is 75ft deep and there is space for a large trampoline and full size table tennis table as well as plenty of room for a table and chairs on the pretty terrace. There are mature willow and hazel trees as well as shrubs and borders and it is a lovely oasis that is very relaxing to be in away from the hustle and bustle of the city."

"This is an artistic street and has a real sense of community. Everyone knows each other and in September there is a street party and at Christmas, neighbours meet for drinks and dancing. There is residents' parking on the street, which costs about £100 per year per car and you can buy a block of visitor tickets for £10 for 100 hours. It is only 0.1 mile to St James's where there is a brilliant deli and Eade's sells wonderful fresh organic fruit and vegetables and there is an excellent chemist, florist and newsagents. The Royal Crescent is 0.3 miles away, so we are right in the centre of Georgian Bath. Margaret's Buildings with its galleries, restaurants and unique shops is only 0.2 miles away. Bath Spa station is a 20-minute walk at 1.1 miles away: I often commute to London. There is also good access to the M4 via Lansdown. There are many wonderful green spaces nearby, Victoria Park is great for kids and hot-air balloon rides over the city and the Cotswold Way is 1.4 miles away."

"We have been so lucky to live in this flexible house, with so many classic Georgian features but so perfect for modern living. We have enjoyed all the advantages of the metropolis on our doorstep as well as a garden in a quiet friendly location, and with very fast access to beautiful countryside."
