This stunning barn was lovingly converted by our clients just 15 years ago with no expense spared and an incredible attention to detail and effort to retain the character and charm of the 200 year old stone barn. The Old Coach House is now an impressive four bedroom family home with an additional stone barn suitable for conversion to annexe or holiday let.
As you enter The Old Coach House you begin to notice the combination of modern living with two hundred year old character. Glimpses of original arrow slits in stone work let you know you are in a historic property. To your left is the dining kitchen with its modern units and farm house kitchen feel, beyond you will find the utility room. Back to the hall and onward you will find yourself emerging into the stunning living space with incredible high ceiling, oak beams, large windows and impressive Swedish wood burning stove. A clever mezzanine creates an office space with a dining area below.
A hallway provides access to two ground floor bedrooms both with en-suites, while stairs rise to the first floor where there are two further bedrooms and a well appointed bathroom
The Old Coach House is surrounded by its own land, with a large lawn garden with trees and shrubs, then there is a decking area complete with hot tub and sauna, a patio and a large yard which provides vehicular access to the barn/workshop, garages and car port and also provides secure off road parking for a number of vehicles.
“The barn was derelict when we first saw it back in 2006 but we loved the fact that it was a strong, stone structure and we stand alone, completely independent of other barns. Built around 200 years ago, its original purpose was for agricultural use but a lot of care was taken in its construction, including the lovely corner stones. We’re surrounded by our own land and the separate cottage was a bonus too,” say the owners.
“We sold our little bungalow and lived on site for 2 years as the renovations took place. No one could understand why we would move to a property with no roof, electrics, or water but I would look around at the walls and the stones and the height and I knew it was the right thing to do. I love the oak beams and the exposed oak floor as it’s so full of original character that just can’t be replicated.”
“LLanddarog is a very pretty and popular village. It’s rural but everything we need is easily accessible, so it really is the best of both worlds here. There are two pub restaurants in the village (one with a thatched roof), as well as a well-stocked shop, Post Office, primary school, church, and village hall. We’re also just one mile away from the National Botanical Gardens of Wales and a lot of our time is spent there as it’s just amazing.”
“The thing I like most about our garden is that there are lots of little sections and seating areas. It’s a big lawned space with mature trees providing shade in the height of summer. The covered decked area is home to our hot tub and sauna, and it’s great for entertaining too, no matter what the weather. We enjoy tending to our vegetable plot and our greenhouse is currently full of tomatoes, and we often see squirrels, rabbits, and hedgehogs, as well as the red kites soaring overhead.”
“We’ve had a fair few parties and celebrations here as it’s made for entertaining. There’s plenty of space available for parking and everyone seems to congregate in the large kitchen. The house really comes into its own at Christmas as I spend days decorating every surface with berries, greenery, and garlands. The staircases and mezzanine floor are adorned with twinkly lights and the log burner roars away providing warmth and atmosphere. Perfect.”
