In fact, Dylan Thomas drank in what is now the Scarlet Room, telling stories in exchange for free drinks. The back of the building is a newer but sympathetic addition, with a private ‘apartment’ looking onto the relaxing garden which gets sun all afternoon. We’ve grown herbs and vegetables on the various levels, it’s peaceful and green the whole year round. Having your own parking is a great advantage here, as Laugharne is a destination village. Pubs, restaurants, attractions and amenities are all close by and the stunning estuary and historic castle are just over the road. We feel very lucky to have found a breath-taking property in an ideal location. During our search, nothing else came close to matching the size and character of The Boat House. We’re on the Welsh Coastal Path, which is ideal for walking and cycling. There is a big community spirit to Laugharne, with local groups, organisations and events for every taste and age. Carmarthen is only a short drive away and it’s ideal for a main shop, but we’re also close to lots of amazing places for visits and excursions too”.

The local area - The Boat House is in a row of substantial properties, very close to all the attractions of Laugharne which is on the south coast of lovely Carmarthenshire. The township grew up around the River Taf and its subsidiary the Coran. Laugharne was founded by special charter in 1290 and still maintains many historic traditions, electing local officers to preserve its distinctive character.

Most people know Laugharne as the home of Dylan Thomas, in fact many locals still remember the charismatic author and can tell tales about his adventures. More recently “Keeping Faith” has brought new visitors, captivated by the picturesque local area as seen in the show. Once here, people appreciate the generous quantity of bars and restaurants. There are also great road links to provide quick easy access to the M4, Swansea, Cardiff and beyond, while Tenby and Saundersfoot are within a 30 minute drive.
