"I've also been a designer for many years, so when a very large piece of land came up for sale - which they rarely do here - myself and my business partner jumped at the chance to buy it and build a pair of really outstanding properties, one of which I decided to make my family home."

"Externally the house has quite a traditional look. There are features such as sash windows, gable fronted dormers and a slate roof, all things that give it real character, however inside it's very much a modern home for modern family living. We added a huge, open-plan kitchen/diner to the rear of the property, and that has bi-folding doors that lead onto the garden, so when the sun is shining you can essentially extend the room outside. We also have a spacious formal living room and a really nice study, so it's ideal for anyone wanting to work from home. "Creating a feeling of space throughout the house was very important to me, even in the circulation areas, so I designed this large, very bright and extremely welcoming reception hall, which I feels provides a really good introduction to the sense of light and space that flows throughout the rest of the property."

Favourite aspect of the grounds or surrounding area: "This is an area that has so much to offer," says the owner. "We have easy access to a superb selection of shops and amenities, the transport links are second to none so it's an ideal spot for a commuter, and there are some outstanding schools in the local area, both state and private, so it's also a really fantastic place to raise a family."

Unique Feature: "To the front of the house - as well as ample parking for numerous cars - we have a large double garage, above which is a huge room," says the owner. "It's currently an office space, but I'd say that the possibilities for its use are endless."

What they'll miss most / why they are leaving: "The house has been a superb family home and we've been extremely happy here for the past nine years," says the owner. "In terms of what I'll miss I suppose it will be the sheer amount of space and the sense of openness, which combine to make it very comfortable for day-to-day living and a fantastic house to entertain in."
