Elmstead is a village in the Tendring district of Essex, which lies 1.8 miles north-east of Wivenhoe, and 3.7 miles east of Colchester. The village enjoys good local amenities, including a convenience store, restaurants, and a nursery and primary school of high repute. It is on the A133 road, which until some years ago was the main road to Clacton-on-Sea, Frinton-on-Sea, and Harwich. The A120 was constructed to bypass Colchester and Elmstead, reducing the volume of through traffic considerably.
The nearest train station is Alresford with links into London Liverpool Street, this should cater for all of your commuting needs. The village benefits from bus routes into Colchester along with various other destinations. There is also easy access to the A12 motorway.
