Seller Insight - Beechwood Cottage is an extremely attractive period home that is simply bursting with character and charm. It boasts over five acres of rolling grounds, excellent equestrian facilities, a self-contained cottage and occupies an idyllic countryside location just six miles from Coventry City centre. This house took us two long years to find as our wish list was really quite specific, says the owner. We wanted land so that our daughter could keep her horses close by, a lovely big family home in a rural yet convenient location and we also wanted separate accommodation for my parents and Beechwood Cottage ticked every single box.
We believe the house was built around two hundred years ago and its incredibly pretty to look at, but there was quite a bit of work that needed to be done to make it both to our taste and conducive to modern family life, and so over time weve made quite a few improvements, but all very much in keeping with the wonderful sense history of this lovely old building. There was a lot of dark oak panelling, which made the house feel dark, so we took that off and generally lightened the dcor throughout; we extended the kitchen, transformed the dining hall and we had a beautiful bespoke staircase built. The whole house is now wonderfully light and bright, the layout flows beautifully and there are lost of features such as exposed beams and timbers and an inglenook fireplace that give it real character and charm. Its been a fabulous family home and I love absolutely everything about it.
The garden and grounds are another feature of the property, continues the owner. We have a huge lawn thats edged with borders full of mature shrubs and flowers, theres a pretty pond, a rockery and we have a lovely big patio where we can sit out and just admire our stunning surroundings. A little walkway leads to the orchard beyond which we have four fields, a large stable block and a manege. Its such a beautiful environment to live in, so private and peaceful, and the views are lovely.
I love the whole house, but if I had to pick a favourite room it would probably be the dining hall, purely because its the part of the house that has undergone the most dramatic transformation, says the owner. Its heavily beamed, features our gorgeous bespoke staircase and when you walk into the house it makes for a really impressive entrance.
The house enjoys this wonderfully tucked away location on a very quiet lane and the views are of virtually nothing but open countryside, says the owner. However, Kenilworth is only ten minutes away by car and I can be in either Coventry, Leamington or Solihull in around twenty minutes, so everything we might want or need is within easy reach.
The cottage began life as stables, then became garaging and we then converted it for my parents, says the owner. It has one bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchen, a dining room and a lounge so its very spacious. We actually have planning permission in place to build a large kitchen extension which includes a glass atrium that would join it to the main house.
Were moving to be closer to our children, but theres no doubt its going to be a tremendous wrench to leave this house, says the owner. In terms of what Ill miss most when we leave, Id have to say everything. Its a very special place and weve had fourteen very happy years here.
