The house is currently in the care of brothers Stephen and Jonathan. "Our parents bought The Gables, which has a wonderful sense of history, in 1987. It was designed by 'rogue architect' Samuel Sanders Teulon (1812-73) who, according to a Daily Telegraph feature, was a master builder who rejected the Georgian ideal of restraint in favour of 'Victorian architecture at its most aggressive'. Teulon's approach is evident at The Gables which has more gable walls than ought to be possible in a period home" says Stephen. "The edge of Coventry location proved ideal for our parents: it overlooks the countryside and yet is within a friendly community. The large garden with a splendid Wellingtonia and Cedar of Lebanon was essential for our father who grew flowers, fruit and vegetables and spent much time tending the lawns. Our mother was particularly drawn to hosting guests" says Jonathan.

The Gables is surrounded by fields on three sides with St Andrew's Church and St Andrew's Church of England Infant School (also designed in matching style by Teulon) on the other side. The church has a thriving community who organise many social activities and The Warwick Arts Centre a world-class multi-venue arts complex is only a 10-minute drive away. Local shops are a five-minute walk along Church Lane. The property is ideally located for commuters to either Birmingham or London due to its close proximity to Tile Hill train station and the A45.

"The Gables is a Victorian architectural gem that was a lovely home for our parents for over thirty years. It combines the good facilities of Eastern Green with space and calm that comes from being on a city boundary overlooking the greenbelt," adds Stephen.

Jonathan says The lounge is my favourite room because its large south-facing bay window overlooks the beautifully cared-for garden.

"As a London dweller, I've always greatly enjoyed being able to walk out of the back door to enjoy the beautiful garden, or out of the front to let the children or dog roam free across country fields.

"Christmas family meals around the large dining room table were particularly memorable.

"Alas, the house is only for sale because our father passed away and our mother needed a smaller home closer to us."
Both brothers note that: "Most of all we'll miss the warmth and hospitality that The Gables generates."

Accommodation - Accommodation - Entering the property through a beautiful Gothic stone arched doorway is the porch and continuing through the front door into the hallway, you are greeted with space accentuated by 10ft ceilings. The hallway gives access to the main living room, dining room, study, utility room, kitchen, breakfast room and cellar.

Off the hallway to the left is the study, boasting a stone feature fireplace with tiled hearth and a large 6ft high window to the side elevation. Off the hallway to the right is a cloakroom giving access to a WC. Continuing off the hallway, with views of the south-facing garden, is the main living room and dining room both having lots of period features such as fireplaces, coving, ceiling roses and 6ft high windows with original internal wooden window shutters. The main living room has a very large bay window that allows floods of light to accentuate the feeling of space. It also allows you to really appreciate the mature garden and the onward countryside views.

The hallway doglegs to the right giving access to the utility room, cellar, kitchen and breakfast room.

The kitchen has a modern theme with integrated appliances and overlooks countryside at the front of the property. The kitchen gives access to both the rear south-facing garden and to the garden room/workshop (with WC). The workshop is large (20ft x14ft) and because it abuts the rear of the breakfast room it could easily be converted into more internal living space by opening up a breakfast room wall.

The patio also gives access to the workshop/garden room and, on the other side, the external garage. The paved patio is segregated by a raised decorative brick-built flowerbed. The rear garden is split between a vegetable patch, fruit trees and large lawn.
