Valley Farmhouse is a very attractive period property with its roots going back to 1750 with a later addition being built in 1860, verified by a date brick in the wall. It was one of the earlier properties to be built in the charming village of Great Mongeham and still retains some delightful historical features and, although not listed, it is within a Conservation area. Set well back from the road it has two driveways for off road parking and a pathway leading to the front door. There is a spacious sitting room with high skirting boards, picture rails, original floorboards, fitted bookshelves, french doors to the upper decked terrace and a lovely brick fireplace with an impressive oak mantle. This incorporates an open fire you can cosy up to on a cold winter’s evening. The country style pine kitchen includes an inset Rangemaster cooker and an integrated fridge as well as the fascinating original back door leading to the rear porch with its stable door, opening on to the terrace. There are double glazed doors between the kitchen and the dining room with its lovely brick fireplace which can provide a spacious open plan feel for entertaining and family life. This floor also includes a cloakroom with plumbing for a washing machine.
On the first floor there are plenty of storage facilities and a family bathroom as well as three double bedrooms with fitted cupboards including the master with its adjacent shower room. There is also a single bedroom that has built in book shelves and is currently in use as an excellent study. On the second floor there are two loft rooms under vaulted ceilings and a window on the landing providing wonderful views across the surrounding countryside. This floor would make an excellent hideway for teenage or adult children looking for their own space and a bit of independence. Outside the upper decked and balustraded terrace is ideal for relaxing in the sunshine while the lower paved patio is just the place for al fresco dining. The large and secluded level garden is mainly laid to lawn with tree and shrub borders and includes an artesian well while beyond the end of the garden is a dyke that flows out to Port Richborough. There are a number of useful outbuildings including a large workshop, dog kennels and an enclosed grass dog run and at the front of the house there is a lawn flanked by the two driveways and an attached garage.
“I have always lived in the area and bought this house about 25 years ago. At the time it was in a very poor state and I spent a very considerable amount of time, money and effort renovating the whole property. We have loved living here and enjoyed entertaining both in the house as well as having large parties in the garden. It is a very warm and friendly house and we will be sad to leave but feel it is time to downsize and pass it on to another family.
The village is delightful and lies on the edge of the beautiful North Downs and there are plenty of places to go for country walks as well as to the seafront. Indeed, we can walk to the beach in Walmer or West Kingsdown in about 10 to 15 minutes. The village is very friendly with many activities taking place in the village hall on a regular basis and we have a good primary school as well as a pub you can stroll along to without having to worry about driving, For equestrian aficionados there is the ‘hack and tack’ riding shop and the Bridleway Riding School in Walmer together with some excellent off road hacking.
The historic towns of Sandwich and Deal and quite close with Deal town centre just a couple of miles away. This lovely seaside town has a wonderful selection of individual shops, an historic pier, Saturday market, hotels, bars and restaurants while Tides swimming pool complex is also easily accessible. There is the Kingsdown and Walmer and the Royal Cinque Ports golf clubs for golfing enthusiasts and if you want to go slightly further afield there is also the championship courses at Royal St George's and Princes in Sandwich. If sailing is your interest there is the Downs Sailing Club with its clubhouse along the Strand at Walmer. There are a number of good primary schools in the area and both Dover and Sandwich offers excellent grammar school facilities while the mainline station in Walmer provides access to the high speed train to Ashford, Canterbury and London”.
