5 Bedroom Detached House For Sale in La Sorne, Approach Road, Shepherdswell, Dover, Kent, CT15 7NZ

3 5 2 1

La Sorne is a real family friendly home. It is an ideal haven for children and dogs as it is at the end of an unadopted road opposite the Shepherdswell village recreation grounds and playground and only 100 yards from the North Downs Way. Built in 1923 this charming period property includes a very large garden and an ‘in and out’ driveway flanked by shrub borders and tall trees and a pergola leading to a garage & workshop and where you can park a number of cars. Period features such as fireplaces in many of the rooms as well as picture rails, stripped wood doors and flooring and box bay windows add character and the size of the rooms provide a spacious and welcoming feel.

There is a well proportioned country style kitchen/breakfast room with a built in double oven and hob as well as a very large walk in larder store and plenty of space for a table and chairs. This leads to the adjacent utility room and the rear tiled lobby with access to the garden as well as to the very useful shower room that is an ideal spot for a wash down when you have been out for a muddy walk. The focal point of the good sized lounge is the delightful Kent ragstone fireplace with a working fire you can sit around on a cold winter’s evening. There is also access to the formal dining area that is open plan to the entrance hall as well as double doors to the conservatory that makes an ideal summer sitting/dining area.

A charming sitting room is light and bright with a cast iron fireplace and an archway to a box bay window. This room would make an ideal office if you work from home as it is just inside the front door with a cloakroom opposite so business visitors would not need to venture into the private part of the house. It could also be used as an additional bedroom for elderly guests or relatives who find the stairs difficult as there is the downstairs shower room and a nearby boot room where all the security system controls are located.

Leading from the galleried landing is the family bathroom with a separate cloakroom and five bedrooms. These include four doubles with one having a box bay window overlooking the recreation ground and a single that could be used as a study or be converted into an en-suite attached to the principle bedroom.

The rear garden includes shrub and tree borders, a gravelled seating area for al fresco entertaining and a very large lawn featuring wild meadow flowers. This leads through a pergola to the kitchen garden with its garden shed, fruit cages housing raspberry canes as well as blueberries and strawberries and a vegetable patch that is just the place for those wanting to develop the ‘good life’.

“We have lived here for 26 years and it has been a great home to bring up our children. They have now moved away and we have decided to downsize and move nearer to our family. It is very quiet and peaceful here and the children thoroughly enjoyed having the playground and cricket and football pitches opposite. However, although it is quiet we are not isolated as it is only a five minute walk to the shops, school, station and pub.

The village has a very friendly atmosphere with a church and the village hall that hosts a variety of community events. The Bell pub is a traditional Grade II Listed building with a welcoming atmosphere, beamed ceilings and wooden floors and where you can enjoy a drink without having to worry about driving home. There is also a Co-op mini supermarket and a mainline station in the village with direct trains to Dover and London, while the trains from Dover Priory can whisk you to London in about an hour. You will also find the charming and historic East Kent Railway that is run by a preservation society. For sporting enthusiasts the village is home to the 'Shepherdswell Spartans' Football Club as well as Sherpherdswell Cricket Club while golfers can play at Broome Park or go slightly further afield to the championship courses at Sandwich. Boating aficionados can join the Downs Sailing Club in Dover and if motor racing is your interest you can always visit the Lydden circuit. There is also a good primary school in the village while Dover, Sandwich and Canterbury offer excellent secondary state and private education.

The village is very central as you can be in Canterbury for shopping in a little over 20 minutes or Dover docks for the Continent in even less time. There are also excellent shopping facilities in and around nearby Whitfield including a large Tesco, B and Q, a B and M value store and Screwfix as well as doctors, hairdressers, pubs and restaurants”.
