Seller Insight - My wife and I have always lived in Harborne, say the current owners of this fantastic 5 bedroom detached home, and when this property became available in a superb location on the border with Edgbaston, we knew it was where we wanted to live. Originally, the house was owned by the Greek orthodox church and was the residence of the bishop, with the small bedroom at the front of the property even having had an altar in it at which he performed christenings!

Since moving in, the owners have made various improvements to the property. Seeing the potential of the house to become a fabulous family home, they say, we set about refurbishing it with the help of an architect to make the improvements we wanted whilst retaining the character of the original house. Initially we added a two storey extension, which gave us space for a beautiful fitted kitchen and an additional area upstairs for another bedroom with en suite. We also used the additional space to include a walk-through dressing area in the master bedroom, which leads onto a larger bathroom containing a jacuzzi, separate power shower area, and double sinks. While the extension was being completed, we added double glazing throughout and replaced the roof, also building a conservatory which added another dimension to the house.

Outside, concrete tile effect has been laid on the drive area, electric iron gates fitted on the bridge crossing the brook to enter the property, and iron railings raised at the front of the property, continue the owners. To the rear, we have made the most of the natural slope of the land to create a three tier landscaped garden with decked seating area, flat lawn, and separate vegetable garden complete with greenhouse and garden shed, linked with steps, a Cotswold stone wall, and repurposed railway sleepers, respectively. The sun travels across the back garden in the morning and is on the front garden during the late afternoon, so we can enjoy morning coffee or breakfast on the decking on summer weekends.

We will miss the space we enjoy in our home, the tranquillity of sitting on the patio on a warm summer evening, and the convenience of Harbornes village shops.

My favourite feature is my greenhouse, where I enjoy nurturing plants from seed. We also very much enjoy reading in the conservatory on a Sunday morning.

This area is very good for local amenities and is just a pleasant walk from the city. We have the worlds oldest lawn tennis club a stones throw away from our home, too.

Particularly fond memories are of the family parties we have had over the years with both our children and grandchildren.
