The Gwaun Valley – an ancient glacial melt water valley is an area of outstanding beauty running inland from Lower Town Fishguard towards The Preseli Mountains, and was created by torrents of meltwater from the retreating ice during the last Ice Age, leaving a verdant, steep-sided valley now part of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The valley has a unique atmosphere and an abundance of wildlife and prehistoric sites. Also special is the peace, the quiet, the darkness and the stars – a true haven of tranquillity.
Birdlife is everywhere, darting over the ponds, at the edge of streams, soaring above grassland and thick oak woods, with a wide diversity of species including rare Red Kites, Buzzards, Dippers, Tree Creepers and Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers to name but a few.
Nearby the Preseli Hills - a spectacular mountain range popular with walkers and cyclists features a web of winding lanes, bridleways, moorland and footpaths bright with all the vivid yellows and purples of gorse and heather. Carningli (Mountain of Angels) is a mystical mound above nearby Newport, with the nearest mountain Cerrig Lladron, rising up above the headlands with panoramic views of the whole of the Pembrokeshire coastline.
A short drive will take you to wide sandy beaches along the Pembrokeshire coastal path -Newport, Poppit Sands, and Whitesands in St Davids, as well as small harbours, quaint villages and secret coves for which this part of the world is famous. A former vicarage of 1903-4, built to designs by George Morgan & Son of Carmarthen for Percy Arden of Pontfaen. The design with Arts and Crafts elements is clearly the work of J. Howard Morgan, bearing similarity to his chapels such as local Jabez of Pontfaen where the same design in the vicarage hallway was used when laying the encaustic floor tiles in the vestibule. They also share the same portico design.
An affixed metal plaque recording the building date, vicar and donor still adorns the portico proudly recording the property’s historical provenance. The Church sold the property to a private owner in 1978.
The Old Vicarage was declared a Grade II listed building in 2003 due to special historic interest as the building was 100 years old, and because of the architectural significance of the portico and the staircase.
THE OLD VICARAGE

Take the THIRD turning (approx. 3 miles from the crossroads), follow the lane down the hill, cross the bridge and as you come up the hill you will see The Old Vicarage on the left.
