"The house was a definite project when we bought it nineteen years ago, so in terms of what sold it to us, I'd say it was largely the location," says the owner. "Barham is a lovely little hamlet, very peaceful and we're surrounded by rolling countryside making it a very pretty place to live. However, we're just a stone's throw from the intersection of the A14 and A1 – although the roads don't impact on the tranquillity of our surroundings in the slightest making it easy to get to places such as Huntingdon, Peterborough and Cambridge; and from Huntingdon station it's under an hour to get into Kings Cross which is ideal for commuting. It's one of those places that has allowed us to enjoy the best of both worlds."

"The house itself was stuck in a 1970s time warp and the ground floor needed reconfiguring to make it more conducive to modern living. During our time here we've done an awful lot of work and it's now absolutely lovely throughout. We moved the kitchen to an area of the house that overlooks the garden, removed some internal walls to create a fabulous open-plan space, and seven years ago we added a gorgeous orangery that flows seamlessly from the kitchen creating a lovely dining area and a great space for parties. The old kitchen became the children's playroom and we removed the hideous central brick fireplace which cut the drawing room in half. We also felt that the front of the house was missing something so we added a pretty oak porch which gives the house great curb appeal."

Barham is a small but highly regarded village sitting approximately 4 miles from excellent road links via the A1 and A14 into Huntingdon, Peterborough and Cambridge and the wider national motorway network. Barham is approximately seven miles west of Huntingdon with its mainline train station providing a fast train service into Kings Cross in approx. 45 minutes. The larger neighbouring villages of Alconbury and Spaldwick offer a range of amenities including sports clubs, public houses, GP surgery, shop, post office and pharmacy.
