When the current owners first saw their home it was rented out by the local farm estate to another family “But we fell in love instantly with its beautiful stone and elegant proportions and so, when it came up for sale sometime later, we jumped at the chance to buy, even though we knew there was quite a bit of work to do. The house has such a sense of history we felt a responsibility to ensure we renovated it sympathetically, and over the last twenty years we’ve done a lot or work such as replacing the windows with handmade wooden sash windows and reconfiguring the kitchen and dining room to create a really sociable open plan family room where we can all cook, eat, and relax together and indeed, we do spend a lot of our time there. Its lovely for the whole family to congregate without tripping up over each other and a wonderful place to relax on the sofas in front of the log burner.”

This spacious family home offers very flexible accommodation throughout. “When we moved here our children were between the ages of 11-18 years, and we found it particularly suited us as we could let the older children have the whole top floor of the house to themselves.”

“In fact, the garden holds some very special memories for us as we’ve held several special events there including a garden party for Marie Curie, and a summer supper party for St Barnabas Hospice. And it’s also where we’ve held numerous special celebrations including BBQs for family and friends, and a rehearsal supper for our son’s wedding.”

“We’ve always loved the calm and cosy atmosphere of this house, which is what we’ll miss most, as well as the lovely garden which has provided us with decorations for the house no matter what the season. We’ve also enjoyed being able to access the surrounding countryside so easily. It’s been lovely to stroll to nearby Navenby, enjoy browsing the antiques, have lunch, and then amble home. It’s really been a privilege living here.”

Welbourn is a small conservation village lying along the Lincoln Cliff escarpment overlooking the Trent Valley with fabulous walking and cycling trails around the surrounding picturesque countryside. It’s superb community centre acts as a hub for village activities, and there’s a shop/post office, and a pub, whilst nearby Navenby (3 miles) offers a Co-Op, shop, antiques centre, florist, takeaways and two pubs. A wider range of shopping, leisure, and cultural facilities is also within easy reach in the market towns of Newark (10 miles) and Grantham (12 miles), or in the historic cathedral city of Lincoln (12 miles). For commuters, fast mainline train services to London or Leeds can be accessed from either Newark or Grantham.

The village caters for primary and secondary education at the Welbourn Church of England School and the Sir William Robertson Academy, both are rated ‘Good’ by OFSTED. Two nationally recognised grammar schools are also within easy reach at nearby Grantham, the Kesteven and Grantham Girl’s School and at The King’s School Grantham (boys)
