Admiralty House is a handsome period home that occupies a sought after location within the lovely coastal village of Sutton-on-Sea. "Before we bought this house, my wife and I were living in Sheffield, but we'd often holiday in Sutton-on-Sea and we've always loved the place," says Dave. "It's a charming little seaside village, very peaceful and it has a gorgeous sandy beach, some lovely shops and restaurants – including, of course, the obligatory fish-and-chip establishments – and some very cosy pubs; in short, everything, and a little bit more, that you could possibly wish for. We loved it so much that we decided to make it our permanent home, and after searching for quite some time for the perfect property we came across Admiralty House, but it was in a terrible state. For six months we would regularly drive down and just sit outside pondering what we could do with the place, and finally, in 2016 we decided to take the plunge."

"We enlisted the help of LDC Architects and J.H.A Winter and Sons – a fantastic local building company – to completely redesign and beautifully refurbish the property, and we really couldn't be more pleased with the results. The whole house has been very stylishly updated; it's like a brand new home encased within this elegant period shell. The layout is now much more open plan, all of the en-suite bedrooms are generously proportioned and we've created a fabulous master suite on the top floor, which benefits from having the most amazing sea views. We've also installed technology such as underfloor heating and state-of-the-art lighting, and because we wanted to make sure that the whole house would be accessible for my father-in-law who is in a wheelchair, we've also had a lift installed."

"The garden has also been designed with ease of access in mind, so it's very flat and again has a very open feel, and it's edged with a high fence so we've always enjoyed a superb degree of privacy. We have a big open lawn, lots of nice places to sit and relax, and we've also added a high-end swim spa, of which there are only three in the country – the Brownlee brothers apparently bough the other two – and that's a feature that has given us a lot of enjoyment."

Favourite Room: "The open-plan space is the real heart of the home, but my favourite room would have to be the games room, which features a three-meter-long bar," says Dave. "I have two flat-screen TVs in there, lots of curiosities that my wife and I collected over the years, and we've had mood lighting installed that will synchronise with any music that's being played. It's a fantastic room for a party and it has French doors so guests can spill out onto the garden when the weather is warm."

Favourite aspect of the grounds or surrounding area: "Sutton-on-Sea is a place that offers a really superb quality of life, but what I've loved most about living here is being in such close proximity to the beach. The house is just three hundred meters from the seafront so on a whim we've been able to go for a swim of a lovely long walk along the golden sands."

Favourite room: "The master suite is definitely a standout feature and a wonderfully luxurious space. We had a huge shower installed that's over a meter and a half long and has the biggest rain showerhead we could find. It's almost like showering in a cathedral!"

What they'll miss most: "It's the sea views from the top of the house, the utter peace and tranquilly of the property as a whole and the superb quality of life that I think I'll miss most," says Dave. "The house was in a terrible state when we found it, and I feel very proud of the fact that we've been able to breathe new life into it. It's one of a kind and I'm sure its new owners will be extremely happy living here."
