“We bought this house 24 years ago and have really loved bringing up our family here. However we feel that, as our children are now grown up and we spend more of our time in Spain, it is time to downsize although we know we shall miss this lovely place. Over the years we have extended and upgraded the property to provide what we feel is a wonderfully warm and friendly family home. This included replacing tiles in the hall and porch with replicas of the original Edwardian design and either replacing or renovating many of the fireplaces in the same way.

 

We added the sitting room, dining area, utility room, two bedrooms and a shower room to give us the space we needed indoors while outside we built the gym and the garage was replaced by the cinema and covered dining area where we spend much of our time. Indeed, although we have the breakfast and dining areas available we are more likely to eat in the covered dining area – we even had Christmas lunch there one year when there was snow on the ground! We have always enjoyed entertaining and on warm summer days there is nothing we like more than al fresco dining using the ‘kitchen’ area for barbecues that we have created at the other end of the garden and where it is very peaceful just listening to the tinkling of the water feature while sitting on the patio.

 

We find the location very central as there is a bus stop nearby and we are within walking distance of local beaches and not far from Margate with its Turner gallery, Old Town, Dreamland and a variety of bars and restaurants. In the other direction Westgate town centre is fairly near with its unique parade of individual, canopied shops as well as Indian and Chinese restaurants and Blue Flag St Mildred's and West Bay. There is also a mainline station, a very good and inexpensive local cinema as well as a bowls and tennis club while the Westgate and Birchington golf club is easily accessible.

Driving through one of a pair of impressive wrought iron gates and on to the large ‘in and out’ driveway that provides plenty of off road parking, you will be charmed by the attractive exterior of this extended Edwardian detached family home that is set well back from the road. However once once you walk through the period stained glass and wood front door you will find even more delightful surprises. As well a plethora of period features throughout the house such as marble and cast iron fireplaces in many of the rooms, high skirting boards, pictures rails and ceiling roses the garden is something really special. It not only includes a variety of specimen trees and shrubs there are plenty of areas designed particularly for fun and leisure. There is an impressive cinema room and a gorgeous heated covered dining area with canvas sides that can be taken down in the summer time but in winter they keep the area warm and cosy while at the end of the garden you will find a fantastic gym and a crazy paving patio with a wonderful outdoor seating and cooking facilities for all those al fresco meals.                                               ...
