This is a wonderful family home located in Highweek village. It has a lovely, bright, airy feel with spacious rooms. There are five bedrooms and three receptions, beautiful private gardens and plenty of parking. You really need to book a viewing to appreciate the quality accommodation on offer.
SELLER INSIGHT We can't quite believe it, but we've been here over 30 years! We love so much about The Laurels, it really has been an amazing home. It's not an average house, it's a unique design that flows really well and offers versatile accommodation. It's something a little different to the homes on the new developments, individuality, a good size plot and plenty of parking.
Visitors are always impressed when they come here, the lounge always attracts positive comments. It's a split-level room which is lovely and bright and looks out over the garden. In the warm weather it's lovely to have all of the doors open, you get a lovely gentle breeze through.
The house facilitates multi-generational living (and visitors) within its walls, with its unique layout, the old, the young and the in-betweens can find a place to call their own. We've loved the outside as much as the interior, in fact, the garden was just a slope when we moved in! We've landscaped and added in a pond area with Koi Carp, and plenty of seating areas to enjoy the sunshine all day long. The wealth of wildlife that passed through the garden is lovely too, we get plenty of different birds on the feeders, we've really enjoyed watching them come and go.
The views from The Laurels are fab too, watching the trees change through the seasons is wonderful, and then in the winter, we're treated to a view of the church and even a glimpse of the estuary at Teignmouth!
The location has worked really well for us over the years, it's a lovely walk down to Newton Abbot town – you can always catch the bus if you buy too much, the stop is really close by. It's also nice to walk to the church and into the fields, the views from there are fantastic! We've enjoyed the beaches at Teignmouth and the wilds of Dartmoor, both accessible in around 20 minutes and the A38 is not far away either. To us, it has been the perfect location.
It's been a difficult decision to move as we're so happy here, but we want to move closer to our children and their children in the South East. We'll miss The Laurels very much, but it is time for a family to enjoy it as much as we have done.
STEP INSIDE You'll appreciate the light and airy feel of this property as soon as you go through the front door. The house has been decorated in neutral tones which gives a crisp modern feel. A split staircase gives access to the lower and upper floors, and double doors lead you in to the living room. With a high ceiling and lots of light, this room is really quite impressive. A short staircase leads up to a gallery area which is used as the dining room, it works perfectly as it leads on into the kitchen. The gallery design also gives really useful storage underneath it too, which saves having to store things in the loft.
The kitchen has been well designed and gives plenty of work top space and storage. There's a breakfast bar with space for two at one end of the kitchen and three windows which keeps the space lovely and bright. There is a door to the outside so you can get out to the garden a door back to the entrance and a door into a rear lobby. From here there is access to the cloakroom WC and also the second living room.
The second living room is designed in a cottage feel and has a living flame gas fire; the sellers use it as a winter lounge as it's so cosy. It could be used for lots of different things. A home office, a studio, a play room or even an additional bedroom. It is a really flexible space which could be enlarged further if necessary (subject to planning permission) to create an annexe for example.
A short staircase from the entrance hall leads up to the master bedroom. This is a large room from the front to the back of the house. It has lovely views and has lots of light. The room also has built in wardrobes and a modern shower room ensuite. Bedroom 5 is on this floor too. This would be a great room for small children, or it could be used as a dressing room for the master bedroom which would create a lovely master suite.
On the lower floor there is a family bathroom and three bedrooms all of which are a good size and have built-in wardrobes.
STEP OUTSIDE The gardens are a credit to the owners who transformed the space from a simple sloping garden into what is there today. It is a quiet, private garden where they have managed to create a level lawn with terraces and spaces to sit and enjoy the sunshine at all times of the day. An attractive pond has also been put in which is stocked with Koi Carp. There is access to the front from both sides of the house. To the front, there is a good-sized driveway and access in to the garage. The front also has a lawn area, and a further seating area to get the very last of the sunshine.
