"When we bought Bumper Hall Penn, location was everything," say the current owners of this fabulously situated property. "There are incredible views over open countryside. On a clear day we can even see the tips of the wind turbines at Wadlow Wind Farm over 23 miles away, as well as air show events at IWM Duxford. The property itself introduced us to the warmth and character of Potton homes and we saw huge potential to uniquely extend and modernise the house to make it the modern family home it is today."
"We have spent a lot of time and money on the house since we moved in in 2010," say the owners. "We lived in the house for a year, got married and then rolled up our sleeves and became project managers on a variety of big projects around the house! Firstly, we installed a wood burner to the amazing characterful fireplace. We then did a Potton side extension which gave us a large, modern, kitchen diner and utility room, with underfloor heating, Greenheart Bespoke Furniture walnut and cream kitchen and Corian worktops in both kitchen and utility room. The kitchen itself was a big focus and we gave every detail attention, from moving an internal wall by an inch to accommodate the right size cabinets, to high end equipment such as a tambor unit, beautifully lit large larder cupboard and many pull out units. There are top of the range Neff integrated appliances and, our favourite feature, the Quooker boiling tap."
"This extension also enabled us to bring the garden into play," the owners say, "with the bi-folding doors and to make our Potton home full of light with a vaulted ceiling and remote controlled Velux windows. We also created two new modern bathrooms, both with Corian worktops, making them easy to clean, whilst remaining incredibly hygienic as they have no joins at all. Plus, we added dormers to both en suite and main bathroom to give even more light and space.
We created a large master bedroom suite benefitting from a walk-in wardrobe/dressing room, with walnut and cream full length wardrobes which are all beautifully lit on opening. With all of these additions to our Potton home, we had the entire house sprayed with a 'never paint again' style coating so the house looks original from every angle."
"We also transformed the rear garden," the owners continue, "making it very low maintenance whilst also having an easily kept pond with a bespoke sculptural cover (made to British Standards compliance) which makes it perfectly safe for young children. The rear of the house and garden gets early morning sunshine and cool summer afternoons. The favourable aspect of the garden also means we have great sunrises, especially seen from the annexe/office, as well as frequent rainbows arching over the fields behind in the summer. The summerhouse looks out over the fields and is a great place to unwind at the end of the day and see the results of the sunset which often gives us rich pink skies. With multiple seating areas, the garden is the perfect place to barbecue, entertain or simply enjoy the garden itself."
The local area has much to offer, too. "The local village pub is within walking distance and serves food that gets great reviews," say the owners. "There's a local corner shop and Post Office which is always indispensable. There are options locally for nurseries, pre-schools, and schools. The location is within easy reach of Royston station to head into London, and just minutes from the A1 and M11. Royston has many facilities, including supermarkets and a sports centre, while nearby Cambridge is a lovely place for a day out. In addition, BT recently brought the village up to speed with Superfast Broadband which saw us get a guaranteed download speed (on our contract) of 27mbps. This has transformed working from home and watching all types of TV on demand!
For lovers of the great outdoors, this is the perfect location, as one can head off in almost any direction on foot or bicycle for stunning country walks and off road cycling. We're only yards from the Icknield Way, which has given us years of fantastic daily dog walks. There is even a local natural spring within a 20 min walk."
"We'll miss the kitchen dinner as it's such a lovely social area for everyday life and entertaining. The utility room is fantastic too, as the dogs have their own bespoke special easy clean bedrooms. The vaulted ceiling gives so much light and a wonderful feeling of space."
