"I've always loved villages and the quality of life that they can offer, so when I began looking for a new home for myself and my young daughter ten years ago I knew it would have to be in a village, and I really struck lucky with Great Gransden," says Sarah. "It has a lovely little primary school, which is just a short walk from the house, there's a play park down the road and the village itself is surrounded by rolling green fields so it's a great place for both walking and cycling. There's also a thriving community here so lots going on and everyone is incredibly friendly, but we're not in each other's pockets. It's a fabulous place and I'm going to be so sad to leave."

"My last house was very old and a real money pit, so the other thing on my wish list was a modern home that would be easy to live in and maintain, and this house definitely ticked those boxes. It was beautifully designed and built by David Wilson Homes in 1999 and it was just stunning when I came here, however I didn't want it to be like all the rest and so a few years ago I decided to make some quite major changes. I had the wall taken down between the kitchen and dining room to create a fabulous open-plan space, the flooring in there was replaced with beautiful polished porcelain tiles and in the majority of the rest of the house I've had very stylish white oak floorboards laid. I've also had the whole of the loft space converted into a very luxurious master suite and when the stairs were put in they were designed in such a way that there's now a very dramatic, light-filled space that stretches all the way up from the reception hall to the roof. The house is now just stunning, it has a fantastic feeling of both light and space throughout, and the layout works brilliantly for busy family life."

"Both the kitchen and the living room have French doors that open out onto our lovely garden, so that almost becomes an extension of the living space when the sun is shining," continues Sarah. "It's a very manageable size, mainly laid to lawn and there's a nice patio area where we can sit out and have our BBQs. We also have a good-size front garden which features a beautiful apple tree, and every year on Apple Day friends from the village will come and help us pick the apples then we take them to be pressed, which makes the most delicious apple juice."

Favourite Room: "The kitchen is the real hub of our home, but the master suite is my favourite part of the house," says Sarah. "The whole floor is mine, so it's a real retreat and from up there you get the most incredible views right the way across the village to Waresley and Gransden Woods in the distance."

Favourite aspect of the grounds or surrounding area: "Great Gransden is a wonderful place and it's enabled me to give my daughter a really idyllic upbringing," says Sarah. "She went to the preschool, most of the children from the village go to the primary school up the road and so we've both ended up making some life-long friends. It's also a good base if you need to commute into Cambridge or London, and we're surrounded by an array of well-served towns and villages so all our day-to-day needs are catered for. What more could you want?

Memorable event (if not another favourite room or unique feature): "During the refurbishment of the house I had the double garage converted into a music studio and I also had it wired up so that it can be used as a cinema room," says Sarah. "It's a lovely big space and very flexible in terms of how it can be used so it could be a home gym or a fabulous playroom."

What they'll miss most / why they are leaving: "The house is fantastic, but it's the village and the people who live here that I'll miss most when we leave," says Sarah.
