It was a real combination of house, garden and location that sold this property to us when we came across it five years ago, says the owner. Its set well back from a really nice road and the views, both front and back are leafy and green; the house itself is wonderfully spacious, as is the garden, and despite our immediate surroundings feeling well removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, we can hop in the car and be in Solihull town centre in no more than a couple of minutes or jump on the train the station is just a short walk from here and be anywhere from Birmingham to London in next to no time. It really couldnt be more ideal.

The house was in excellent condition when we came here, but wed moved from Sydney and become used to the open-plan way of living, and that was something that we definitely wanted to replicate here. So around three years ago we decided to completely remodel the kitchen area to create a large and very open kitchen, eating area and TV room, which has become the real hub of the home. We also added a huge bank of bi-folding doors to not only take advantage of the lovely view of the garden, but also create a really nice connection between inside and out something else wed become used to while living in Australia however, apart from sprucing up the decor, the rest of the house has been largely left as it was. We have a lovely big living room with a log burner that creates a really cosy atmosphere, a beautiful formal dining room and another more flexible space that the children have claimed as their own. Upstairs are five really good-size bedrooms, so no one has had to compromise on space, and I have a particularly luxurious master suite. All in all, its a beautifully designed family home and the changes weve made have simply enhanced it further.

The garden is a real standout feature of the property, and for us it was a huge selling point, continues the owner. We have around an acre of land, and as the house is set well back from the road theres ample parking for numerous cars to the front as well as two large areas of lawn. To the back we have lots of very attractive places to sit out and entertain, theres a vast expanse of lawn, which has been ideal for the children, and the whole space is edged with high hedging and mature trees, so not only do we benefit from a superb degree of privacy, but its also extremely safe and secure.

My favourite part of the house, and the area that everyone tends to naturally gravitate is the open-plan kitchen. We can all be together but doing different things and its also a fantastic room for a party.

In my opinion this is a location that would be hard to better. We have fields to the front and our lovely big garden to the back, so our immediate surroundings are leafy and green, and yet we can walk into town or to the station, there are some excellent schools in the local area and we also have really nice neighbours so theres a good feeling of community, which is rare these days.

The master bedroom suite is another of my favourite parts of the house. Its consists of a huge bedroom with a separate dressing area and an en-suite thats as big as some family bathrooms. And I love the fact that the bedroom has French doors that open onto a pretty Juliette balcony so I can lie in bed and enjoy a really stunning view of the garden.

What will I miss? Absolutely everything, says the owner. This has honestly been my dream house and Im going to be so sad to leave.
