9 Bedroom Semi-Detached House For Sale in Upwey, Weymouth

CLICK ON OUR GUIDED VIRTUAL TOUR. DOMVS, in assoc. with Fine and Country, are delighted to offer this Grade 2* listed Manor House dating back to 1639 set in approx 1.39 acres.

…. to Upwey Manor: a spectacularly proportioned and elegantly presented Grade II* listed Manor House sitting proudly on rising ground, to the east of the River Wey. This magnificent property, dating back to 1639, exudes a unique character, with impressive living spaces as well as inspiring gardens including a maze.

Despite its grand façade with archetypal stone mullion windows, hinting at the property's post Jacobean heritage, the property is very much a family home, with plenty of spaces for both entertaining and unwinding.

Turning into the property between the solid wrought iron gates and immediately you are struck with a sense of historic intrigue, the manor house beckoning you to explore its many chambers, hallways and staircases.

The heavy front door enters an intricately panelled hallway which sets the tone for what lies ahead, with a delightfully understated sewing room to the right, leading to the cloakroom.

Positioned in the eastern wing sits the capacious and elegant dining room – a room for entertaining many in style. A fireplace lies near the top of the room with ornate wood panel inserts over the delightful fire surround. Views of the rear garden can be enjoyed from the generously proportioned leaded windows which allow light to cascade in.

Through a door and into the billiards room, another expansive room, with a splendid log burner set within an inglenook fireplace positioned in the corner and dual aspect views to the side and front. Into the sizeable sitting room, with wonderful nods to times past, ornate stone mullion windows with stained glass inserts allow light to flood into the room. Taking centre stage is the delightful inglenook fireplace, in winter months provides not only a focal point but also warmth throughout the home. The study sits to the side with dual aspect views to the garden at the rear.

The kitchen has flagstone flooring and solid oak cabinets. Integral appliances include dishwasher, hob with extractor over and double oven. A pantry sits at the rear, adding further storage space for appliances and utensils.

Across the inner hall are two utility spaces, with sink and storage being made available on top of plumbing for washing machines and tumble driers.

To the first floor and the impressive drawing room, a beautifully proportioned room with intricate ceiling décor and a striking fireplace, framed with a carved wood surround helping to create an ambience of decadence and luxury. There are five double bedrooms on this floor, the master enjoying an en-suite. A bathroom and additional shower room as well as a galley kitchen, complete this floor.

On the second floor there are three additional double bedrooms and a further bathroom, with a fourth room offering flexibility as either a sitting room, or bedroom.

From the sweeping driveway at the front, to the delightful gardens at the rear, the grounds of Upwey Manor fit perfectly with the charisma and charm of the main house. At the rear, the gardens are predominantly laid to lawn, yet are carefully and smoothly divided into distinct areas with mature trees, topiaries and ponds adding interest. Beyond a row of stone pillars, a maze sits nonchalantly at the foot of the garden, a scale model of one found at Hampton Court Palace, and beyond the weeping willows is a lawn with tennis net already in situ ready for a game.

At the easterly side of the property, a Japanese garden has been carefully designed which leads to an old folly, tucked away in a corner. At the front, the drive way leads to a double garage with adjoining shed.

Upwey is one of Dorset's prettiest, most unspoilt villages. The property is nestled quietly within this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the valley of the Dorset Ridgeway. The River Wey meanders gently through this picturesque village, most well-known for the romantic setting of Upwey Wishing Well at The Spring Head, a favourite place of King George III. Whilst enjoying 'village living', it is also a practical location within close proximity of the wide-ranging facilities of the seaside resort of Weymouth and the county town of Dorchester (4 miles in either direction). Weymouth, Dorchester and Upwey itself all have stations on the main line to London Waterloo. There is also a regular bus service locally, and a popular public house, 'The Old Ship Inn'.

Nearby, excellent sporting facilities abound. Beautiful Ringstead Bay is moments away as is Weymouth & Portland's National Sailing Acadamy. Moreover, there is first-rate fishing to be found on the rivers Frome and Piddle, golf at Wareham, Dorchester, Parkstone and Broadstone, and horse racing at Wincanton, Exeter, Salisbury and Bath.

From Dorchester, take the A354 Weymouth relief road. Go over the Ridgeway and take the first turning on the left to Upwey. Follow signs to Upwey, travelling down hill. Take the second right into Stottingway Street. The property is located a few hundred yards further along on the left hand side. Full height gates mark the entrance.
